Calculator Methodology

This calculator uses a multi-factor weighted scoring model to estimate your job's exposure to AI automation across different time horizons. Here's how it works:

1. Task Automation Potential

Computer-based work percentage: Higher percentages increase automation potential, as AI currently excels at digital tasks.

Task repetitiveness: More repetitive tasks are easier for AI to learn and automate.

Physical dexterity requirements: Higher physical skill requirements reduce automation risk due to current robotics limitations.

2. Protective Factors

Certain skills and activities reduce automation risk:

Creativity & problem-solving: Original thinking and complex problem-solving remain difficult for AI to replicate.
Emotional intelligence: Empathy, relationship management, and human connection are significant protective factors.
Strategic leadership: Higher-level management and people-focused leadership activities provide protection against automation.

3. Industry-Specific Adjustment

Different industries are adopting AI at different rates. The calculator applies industry-specific modifiers based on:

Current AI deployment levels in the sector
Regulatory constraints that may slow adoption
Capital investment patterns and digital infrastructure
Historical technology adoption curves for the industry

4. Time Horizon Projections

The calculator estimates exposure across four time periods:

Today: Based on currently deployed AI capabilities
2 Years: Near-term adoption of existing AI tools across industries
5 Years: Mid-term projections accounting for AI capability improvements and wider deployment
10 Years: Long-term estimates including potential breakthroughs in robotics and multimodal AI

Each time horizon applies progressive multipliers to account for advancing AI capabilities and increasing organizational adoption.

5. Job Title Enhancement (Optional)

When you provide a job title, the calculator cross-references it with ONS occupation data and OECD task exposure research to refine the baseline automation potential for your specific role.

Limitations & Transparency

This calculator provides guidance, not definitive predictions. Key limitations include:

AI capabilities are evolving rapidly; projections may underestimate or overestimate actual pace of change
Organizational adoption varies significantly; some companies may move faster or slower than sector averages
Regulatory changes could accelerate or constrain AI deployment in unpredictable ways
Individual results depend on the accuracy of your self-assessment of work activities

Good News: AdaptAI does not use traditional cookies. Instead, we use your browser's local storage to save your accessibility preferences. Local storage works similarly to cookies but:

Stores data only on your device (never transmitted to servers)
Provides more secure storage than cookies
Does not expire automatically (you control when to delete it)

3. What We Store in Local Storage

We store only two pieces of non-personal information in your browser's local storage:

These are classified as "strictly necessary" because they enable accessibility features that you have explicitly chosen.

4. Third-Party Cookies

Google Fonts: We use Google Fonts to display typography on the Website. When you visit, your browser loads fonts from Google's servers (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). Google may set cookies or use similar technologies for font delivery. We do not control these cookies.

5. What We Don't Use

AdaptAI does NOT use:

Analytics cookies (no Google Analytics, Hotjar, etc.)
Advertising cookies (no Facebook Pixel, Google Ads, etc.)
Marketing cookies (no retargeting or tracking)
Social media cookies (except when displaying public LinkedIn posts)
Performance cookies

We believe in privacy-first web design and do not track your behavior across the internet.

6. Cookie Consent

Under UK law (Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations - PECR), websites must obtain consent before setting non-essential cookies. However:

Local storage for accessibility preferences is strictly necessary for the functionality you request and does not require consent
Google Fonts cookies (if any) are set by a third party and are necessary for delivering fonts to your browser

By using the Accessibility Options and selecting font size or dark mode, you are actively requesting these features, which constitutes implicit consent for storing those preferences locally.

7. Managing Local Storage and Cookies

Clear AdaptAI Preferences:

Click the accessibility icon in the top right of any page
Click "Reset to Defaults" to clear your saved preferences

Clear All Browser Data:

Chrome/Edge: Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data > Cookies and site data
Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data > Clear Data
Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data > Remove All

Block Third-Party Cookies (Google Fonts):

Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Enhanced Tracking Protection > Strict

Note: Blocking third-party cookies may affect font loading and website appearance.

8. Do Not Track (DNT) Signals

Some browsers allow you to send a "Do Not Track" signal. Since AdaptAI does not use tracking cookies or analytics, we respect your privacy by default and do not track your activity regardless of DNT settings.
